5 Tips for Staying on Track During the Holidays

The holidays can be hard!  With the Christmas season brings stress, visitors, parties, liquor, and not to mention all the holiday treats everywhere you look!  It’s incredibly easy to get out of control, and can put your health at risk…not to mention get you really off track on your fitness goals!

Here are 5 simple tricks to help you stay on track during this season!

  1. It’s not all about the food!
Try not to make the food the center of your attention.  Try and bring your attention to what the holidays are about…Being around your loved ones, getting surrounded by love, and expressing/receiving gratitude.  Try and stay with your normal routine, however allow yourself to splurge on a few things…’tis the season afterall!
  2. Drink Up!
This is becoming a fad on my tricks and tips posts…Staying hydrated is crucial…With water of course!  With all the stress, business and never ending errands we have to run during the holidays, it’s really easy to let this really important habit slip!  My favorite way…drink lots and lots of holiday flavored herbal tea!
  3. Relax and Rejuvenate
Hopefully during the holidays, you have at least a few days off from work.  Take these days to really get your body into resting state.  Take a bath, have a hot tub, sit around the fire cuddled in a cozy blanket, or just watch a movie with your loved ones.  Soak it all in!
  4. Indulge on all the veggies!
This one goes hand in hand with tip #1.  It’s so hard not to fall into the temptation of all the treats, however the sugars and fats can really add up fast and make it hard to come back once you do get back on track.  Try this simple trick:  Everytime you fill up your plate, make sure half is covered with fruits and veggies!
  5. Don’t skip on being active.
Whether this means booking a training session to keep you on track, or making time for your workouts, this tip is CRUCIAL.  You can even head over to my workouts tab to find some easy quick workouts that you don’t even have to leave your house for! **Getting back to your fitness routine after a couple weeks off is really really hard for some people!
